Week Three in Mexico - Amigos and Ocean Views

Two weeks of solo travel have yielded many adventures but getting to meet up with friends from the States this week has been a special treat for which I am super grateful.

This week in Mexico I finally got out of Mexico City and made it to the beachside city of Puerto Vallarta—just in time to meet up with friends visiting from the States.

I’ve known Nick and Ivan for years and they just so happened to be in Puerto Vallarta the same week, almost as if we planned it or something.

What I couldn’t plan for was the whirlwind this week turned into. It started off with easily the fanciest meal I’ve had since I arrived in Mexico three weeks ago. We’re talking steak, lobster, shrimp, bone marrow, and cute margaritas, but the pièce de résistance was the view. I mean, it’s called Le Kliff for a reason and the reason is a stunning cliff side view of the ocean.

Our seats could not have been better, the service was outstanding, and we left all smiles and ready to take on the week.

We tackled the next day, starting off strong with a steep climb up the steps of the Mirador el Cerro de la Cruz—an overlook accessible only by foot but with a panoramic payoff well worth the sweat.

Later in the week, we took a day trip to Sayulita, a beach town I had heard about through multiple folks back at my hostel in Mexico City. I can see why there were so adamant about a visit. My only regret is spending just part of one day there. It felt more like the kind of place where you shouldn’t be in any rush whatsoever. Classic beach town vibes. If I return, it’ll be in shorts and flip flops with an empty to-do list.

That being said, I’m not sure when I’ll be able to return. As it is, I’m writing this from a lounge at the Puerto Vallarta airport, getting ready to board a flight to Guadalajara I bought only a week ago.

I’m not sure what awaits me there and I’m open to hear your suggestions but I know I could use some downtime for a little while. In about a week I hope to have another update for you.

In the meantime, please follow me on Facebook and Instagram for more regular updates. Also, check out my friends Nick and Ivan on Instagram (@nick_and_ivan) where they share their own travels as well.

Hasta pronto!

Eric

  1. How fun you got to meet with friends! I still wear the rings I bought from Nick a while back.
